Nutrition for your Inner Athlete
Are you a weekend warrior? Do you do minimal exercise through the week, then ramp it up on the weekends by hiking, mountain biking, or taking long runs?
This is what the weekends are for, right? However, it is also a way to injure yourself if you don’t take proper care. You need to balance your weekday nutrition, so you have enough fuel for your weekend adventures.
Hydration is a must. If you stay hydrated all week long, you do not have to play catch up before you hit the trails. Stay away from alcohol a day or two before your next adventure, as it will dehydrate you.
Eat clean all week long. That means eating a plant-based diet with very few processed food items. Eat lots of dark green leafy vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts and fruit and lean meats. Processed foods will bog you down and your body will not recover properly after.
Make sure you pack healthy snacks that include lean protein and complex carbs, and plenty of water for your outings. This will keep your energy up and cut down on muscle fatigue.
Your health should be a main priority in your life, so don’t let it slip through the cracks. Holistic Artichoke offers a relaxed, non-intimidating and supportive approach that will help guide you on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.
