Holistic health is about taking care of the whole body with the goal of achieving optimal physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health. In this article I am touching on intellectual wellness. There are many things you can do to keep your intellectual health sharp.
Of course, nutrition is important. Eating foods high in Omega 3’s such as fatty fish, walnuts, dark leafy greens and legumes, just to name a few. However, keeping the mind active is also key. Working on problem solving skills is a great way to stay intellectually healthy. Consider taking an online class. Now is the perfect time to experiment and learn new skills. Read books and magazines or take up playing a musical instrument.
Being outdoors is also intellectually stimulating. Literally, stop to smell the roses. Appreciate the colors of the flowers, grass, trees and sky. Pay attention to the birds singing and various sounds around you. Breathe it all in and be grateful.
Make sure you are scheduling time to be social right now as well. Share with family and friends about the classes you are taking, the book you are reading, or what you experienced on your walk in your neighborhood. A friend recently cooked dinner with his daughter over Zoom. I would love to know what you are doing to take care of your intellectual wellness.
